A mild, elegant sauce of aronia, blueberries, and bourbon — perfect over pancakes, waffles, or a scoop of ice cream, warm or cold.
Ingredients
- 1 cup aronia berries
- 2 cups blueberries
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3 tsp corn starch
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 cup bourbon
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- In a blender, mix the bourbon and aronia berries.
- Pour the liquid into a heavy, medium-sized saucepan.
- Add the blueberries and brown sugar.
- Mix and bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Turn the heat down and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, mix the corn starch and water until smooth.
- Slowly add a few tablespoons of the hot liquid into the corn starch mixture to temper it.
- At the end of the 20 minutes, stir the corn starch mixture into the pan — it will thicken quickly.
- Remove from heat and transfer the sauce into a canning jar.
