Bourbon Blue Aronia Berry Sauce

A mild, elegant sauce of aronia, blueberries, and bourbon — perfect over pancakes, waffles, or a scoop of ice cream, warm or cold.

  1. In a blender, mix the bourbon and aronia berries.
  2. Pour the liquid into a heavy, medium-sized saucepan.
  3. Add the blueberries and brown sugar.
  4. Mix and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  5. Turn the heat down and simmer for 20 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, mix the corn starch and water until smooth.
  7. Slowly add a few tablespoons of the hot liquid into the corn starch mixture to temper it.
  8. At the end of the 20 minutes, stir the corn starch mixture into the pan — it will thicken quickly.
  9. Remove from heat and transfer the sauce into a canning jar.
  10. Serve warm or cold over ice cream.
